Washington/Duquesne Heights section of Pittsburgh on 2004 June 8. This photograph was taken by Eugene Fink of Carnegie Mellon University. Most members of the public viewed the transit event from a projected image, early that morning.

Early Tuesday Evening, 2012 June 5, safe public viewing of a rare astronomical event, a Transit of the Planet Venus Moving in Front of the Sun, will be offered at the Mount Lebanon Public Library, 16 Castle Shannon Boulevard near Washington Road, in the South Hills of Pittsburgh. Provided clouds do not obscure the Sun, trained astronomers will safely show this special celestial event to members of the public, free-of-charge, from 6:04:01 to around 8:30 p.m. (best view: 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.) EDT.
